2021 Volvo XC90 vs. 2021 Audi Q7: Maximize Your Investment With the XC90

Volvo's flagship SUV just keeps getting better, offering one of the best values on the road. Advanced powertrains handle your family's lifestyle with power to spare, and renowned safety adds protection. It is also the largest SUV offered by Volvo and provides families plenty of room and versatility with its outstanding design.

Here, we further illustrate the 2021 XC90 by comparing it to the 2021 Audi Q7.

The 2021 Volvo XC90 features advanced efficiency

When we dig through the numbers, we discover that the XC90 is more efficient than the Q7. This includes all available powertrains in the lineup. In a time when efficiency is practically a must, the XC90 demonstrates Volvo's commitment.

The XC90 lineup starts with two all-gas engines. A 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder generates 250 horsepower in the Momentum grade while being easy on fuel consumption, earning a rating of 11.5 L/100 km in the city and 8.4 L/100 km on the highway. The T6 powertrain makes available 316 horsepower and 295 lb-ft of torque.

The most powerful and efficient engine belongs to the XC90 Recharge. The advanced T8 Twin Engine hybrid system generates 400 horsepower and 472 lb-ft of torque. But it consumes fuel like a compact vehicle, attaining 9.1/8.4 L/100 km (city/highway).

The Q7 offers three powertrains, two non-S and one in the SQ7 model. The 45 TFSI engine lines up against the XC90's T5 with a similar output, but it has a very concerning fuel consumption of 12.4/10.1 L/100 km. The Q7's 55 TFSI has a 19-horsepower advantage over the XC90's T6 engine, but the 55 TFSI has a stratospheric combined fuel consumption rating of 12.0 L/100 km, whereas the T6 cruises along at 10.5 L/100 km.

Although the Audi SQ7 has the highest horsepower ranking in this comparison, it has a starting MSRP of over $104,000 and worst efficiency.

The 2021 Volvo XC90 takes the value high road

The highest non-S Q7 grade, the Technik, starts at almost $85,000. However, you can purchase the XC90's top gas-only model for just over $75,000, and the XC90 Recharge starts at $77,600. The XC90 maximizes the equipment available for your investment.
