A look at the new B5 and B6 engines in the 2022 Volvo XC60

The B5 and B6 engines replace the T5 and T6 engines in the Volvo XC60. But these are not just replacements, they bring mild hybrid technology as standard even in the base XC60 models. The B5 engine uses a state of the art four-cylinder 2.0-litre turbocharged engine connected to a 48-volt hybrid system. The pairing delivers a combined output of 247 horsepower and 258 lb-ft, this is plenty to zip around the city or travel to the country. The fuel efficiency has been improved for this entry-level engine. It now sits at only 9.4 L/100 km.
The B6 engine uses the same turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder as the B5, but a supercharger is added to the mix for enhanced performance. The total output ranks in at 295 horsepower and 310 lb-ft of torque. The combined fuel consumption is also enhanced compared to the outgoing T6 engine. It sits at only 9.9 L/100 km.
The plug-in T8 powertrain remains in both Recharge and Polestar Engineered models. This unit uses the B6 engine and connects it to a set of electric motors that produce a combined output of 400 horsepower in the Recharge model. The Polestar Engineered model delivers a more, with as much as 415 horsepower.
The 2022 XC60 also gets more tech and more style
On top of the enhancements under the hood, the Volvo XC60 Volvo gets styling and technology changes. For example, the Sensus infotainment system has been replaced by an Android-based interface with a voice assistant, unlimited personalization options, and best-in-class navigation via Google Maps and more in-car apps via Google Play.
Outside, the XC60 gets a new grille and modified front bumper as well as upgrades to the radar, camera, and driver-assistance system sensors.
