The Difference Between Volvo's PHEVs and BEVs

In the world of electric vehicles, there are two main categories: Plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEVs) and battery electric vehicles (BEVs). Both offer superior performance, fuel economy, and environmental sustainability compared to traditional gasoline-powered models. But what makes these two types of EVs different from one another? Let's take a look at the unique features of each type of vehicle.

Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicles (PHEVs)

Volvo offers several plug-in hybrid options that combine a traditional gasoline engine with an electric motor. This type of vehicle uses both power sources to maximize efficiency while still providing plenty of power and range. PHEVs typically have smaller batteries than their BEV counterparts which allows them to cover shorter distances without needing to be plugged in. However, they do need to be plugged in periodically in order to keep the battery charged up and ready for use if you don't want to use the gas engine.

Battery Electric Vehicles (BEVs)

Volvo also offers a number of battery-electric vehicles (BEVs). These vehicles run exclusively on electricity and require no gasoline whatsoever. BEVs rely solely on their batteries for power and range, so they must be charged regularly in order to maintain their performance levels. These vehicles have larger batteries than PHEVs, and they can still provide enough power for everyday driving needs, depending on your commute. In addition, most BEVs offer fast charging capabilities which allow you to top up your battery quickly when you're running low on juice.

Whether you're looking for a plug-in hybrid or a battery-electric vehicle, Volvo has something for everyone. With its wide range of models—from the XC60 PHEV to the all-new and upcoming EX90—you're sure to find a vehicle that meets your needs both now and into the future. So if you’re looking for an efficient car with superior performance without compromising on style or luxury, consider taking one of Volvo’s new PHEV or BEV models out for a spin!
