Three Reasons to Buy a Volvo XC60 Instead of a Mercedes-Benz GLC

With many satisfied owners across Canada, the XC60 continues to make new fans. This European best-seller creates a strong case as one of the top luxury SUVs in its segment. Three advanced powertrains, a pleasant driving experience, and extended safety are just a few reasons the XC60 is preferred around the globe.

So, let's prove how well this vehicle stands up to the competition. Here are three reasons why you should buy an XC60 instead of Mercedes-Benz GLC.

The 2021 Volvo XC60 has the most efficient model and power to spare

The XC60 features three outstanding powertrains that create a niche in efficiency and capability. Options begin with the T5 system that powers the Momentum trim with a 2.0-litre four-cylinder that produces 250 horsepower. Although the GLC 300 and the T5-powered Momentum have similar output, the XC60 trim achieves better fuel efficiency at 11.1 L/100 km in the city and 8.3 L/100 km on the highway.

Moving up, T6-equipped XC60 trims feature a supercharged four-cylinder that increases horsepower to 316. The XC60's T8 hybrid system outputs 400 horsepower and 472 lb-ft of torque (415 hp in the Polestar Engineered variant) with a fuel economy rating of just 9.5 /8.7 L/100 km. This is the best fuel economy offered in either lineup. It also clearly outperforms the GLC 300e hybrid.

The remaining GLC models are a part of the AMG lineup, with the GLC 43 producing 15 less horsepower than the XC60 T8 while guzzling 13.1/9.6 L/100 km. Although the GLC 63 S has the most power in this comparison, it has the worst fuel economy rating, measuring 15.0/10.9 L/100 km.

The 2021 Volvo XC60 features better interior volume

Comfort is king in luxury SUVs. The XC60 offers more front headroom, legroom, and shoulder room. Rear seat passengers have more legroom in the XC60, too. The Volvo also flashes more versatility with up to 1,792 litres of cargo volume behind the front seats, which is nearly 200 more than the GLC.

The 2021 Volvo XC60 offers unique equipment

The XC60 offers special equipment that is not available with the GLC. This includes the advanced Pilot Assist system, for example, that helps with driver fatigue by steering and modulating throttle in a semi-autonomous manner. The Sensus infotainment system is also more intuitive and advanced than the GLC’s system.
