Volvo Electric Car Owners Gain Access to Tesla Supercharger Network in North America
July 05 2023,
Starting in 2025, Volvo, in a pioneering move among European automakers, will enable its electric car drivers to access Tesla’s expansive Supercharger network across the United States, Canada, and Mexico, as part of its ambitious plan to go fully electric by 2030. This significant step is expected to add 12,000 fast-charge points to the existing charging infrastructure for Volvo drivers, with this figure anticipated to increase as Tesla continues its network expansion.
Additionally, all Volvo's electric models, from the current XC40 and C40 Recharge to the recently launched EX30 and EX90, will gain Supercharger network compatibility by mid-2024 via an adapter. Future Volvo cars will come with the North American Charging Standard (NACS) charging port, but will retain compatibility with the Combined Charging System (CCS) through an adapter.
Volvo’s drivers can conveniently locate charging stations and get real-time availability data through the Volvo Cars app, which streamlines the process of locating and paying for charging sessions. Jim Rowan, CEO at Volvo Cars, emphasizes this move as a key step towards making transportation more sustainable and electric driving more accessible.
