Volvo EX90: A New Standard in Sustainable Luxury
July 19 2023,
The all-electric Volvo EX90 SUV is setting a new standard in sustainable luxury, with an interior designed to create lasting impressions. The design team, led by Lisa Reeves, has redefined luxury by using sustainable lightweight materials that are tactile and of premium quality.
The materials used in the EX90's interior come from natural, recycled, and renewable sources. They reflect Volvo's values and Scandinavian roots, combining sustainability with a luxurious feel. The Nordico upholstery, for instance, is made from textiles created from recycled materials like PET bottles and bio-attributed polymers from Swedish and Finnish forests.
The intricate texture of ridges and valleys on the Nordico material is a testament to the designers' effort and attention to detail. Another option is the Nativa-certified wool blend seat finishing, which meets strict sustainability standards on animal welfare, environmental, and social issues.
The EX90 also features FSC-certified wood panels and carpets made partly of regenerated polyamide. These material choices result in almost 50 kilograms of recycled plastics and bio-based materials in the car, the highest amount amongst Volvo's line-up.
The interior design extends beyond material choices. The Volvo EX90 offers seven different "rooms" for customization, each providing a different mood influenced by the Scandinavian lifestyle. With SunLike LEDs lighting the cabin, the wood deco and other progressive materials stand out clearly.
Volvo's commitment to sustainability is further highlighted by its ambition to become a fully electric car maker by 2030 and a climate-neutral company by 2040. The Volvo EX90 SUV is a significant step towards these goals, offering customers the Freedom to Move in a personal, sustainable, and safe way.
